workbench · data catalogEvery table, every source, every byte
The workbench is backed by 100 Parquet tables (4.25 GB on disk, 512.11M rows in total) spanning CEPII (BACI, Gravity, TRADHIST), the IMF (WEO, BoP, IIP, IFS, IMTS), the World Bank (WDI, Pink Sheet, Doing Business), FAOSTAT, OECD (TiVA, GeoDep), UN Comtrade and UNCTAD (TRAINS, NTMs), UNSD (HS-BEC correspondence), UN ESCAP, Eurostat (NUTS 2, Comext), the US Census (state exports, reshoring, monthly intltrade) / FRED / BLS, the NY Fed (GSCPI), Japan Customs, the Harvard Growth Lab Atlas, the WTO Timeseries API, and derived Hausmann-Hidalgo complexity metrics. Every figure on the site is a SELECT against one of these files.
Licensing. Data is redistributed under upstream terms, which in most cases is CC-BY-4.0 with attribution (World Bank, FAOSTAT, Eurostat, ESCAP) or public domain (US federal statistics: FRED, BLS, Census incl. monthly intltrade, OFAC, BIS; Harvard Growth Lab Atlas is CC0 1.0). CEPII, IMF (incl. IMTS), OECD, WTO, and UNCTAD datasets are free for research with attribution per their respective terms; Japan Customs data is under Japan's Public Data License (PDL 1.0). Where documented, sections below link to the upstream source and quote its citation. Missing provenance and license information are identified separately; cite the documented sources and this workbench when reusing.
Partitioned tables (BACI bilateral_year, country_year_product, unit_values, gravity_bilateral, rca_matrix, product_proximity, pref_tariff_hs6) are split by year. For those, download a specific year partition rather than the whole directory; a sample download link is shown per table. Rows marked PRO keep their schema and coverage listed here, but the file download and open-console access are not open.

How to use
Each .parquet file can be queried directly by DuckDB, Polars, pandas (via pd.read_parquet), or Apache Arrow. In DuckDB:
-- single-file table
SELECT COUNT(*) FROM read_parquet('countries.parquet');
-- partitioned table (BACI bilateral, all years)
SELECT exporter, SUM(value) AS v
FROM read_parquet('bilateral_year/**/*.parquet')
WHERE year = 2023
GROUP BY exporter
ORDER BY v DESC
LIMIT 10;Citation
When reusing a table, cite both the upstream source (quoted under each section above) and this workbench as the assembly layer. BACI values are in thousands of USD (multiply by 1000 for current-USD display); PCI is zero-centered and routinely negative; RCA is dimensionless. ISO3 codes are uppercase.
