What he works on
Trade and industrial policy in low- and middle-income countries, with a running focus on Bangladesh and the broader South Asia region. The questions that keep recurring: how tariffs, non-tariff measures, and preference schemes reshape export baskets, which sectors absorb shocks, and where policy space actually exists for small open economies.
Empirical trade methods, applied seriously. Rotterdam and AIDS demand systems for commodity-level import and consumption work, PPML gravity estimation for bilateral flows, Hausmann-Hidalgo product complexity and product-space analysis, and revealed comparative advantage persistence, including the churn that the summary statistics tend to hide.
Data infrastructure, treated as part of the research. Parquet plus DuckDB for the heavy lifting, open replications of published estimators, and scraped customs data where official aggregates are missing or lagged. The workbench you are reading is one expression of this: the SQL, the Parquet, and the cited paper are visible on every page.
AI-augmented research pipelines. Routine scaffolding, literature gap searches, code generation for estimator boilerplate, and drafting are delegated to models under tight review, so human attention goes to identification, units, and interpretation.
